Our Foot & Ankle Medical Care

Our podiatrist can provide routine foot and ankle care, as well as foot or ankle surgery, when needed, to repair tendon or ligament tears, correct deformities, or to treat broken bones. We offer custom-fit orthotics and commonly provide diabetic foot care for patients with diabetes.

We also diagnose and treat many common foot and ankle conditions, including:

  • Achilles tendon tear
  • Ankle sprain
  • Bunions
  • Callouses and corns
  • Foot ulcers
  • Fungal nails
  • Ganglion cysts
  • Hammer toe

Diabetic Foot Care

If you or a loved one has diabetes, it is very important to pay special attention to the feet. This is because diabetes can make even minor foot problems especially serious, even deadly, for diabetics.

Poorly controlled diabetes damages nerves and blood circulation throughout the body, especially to the limbs like the legs and feet. Due to nerve damage in the feet, you may not feel a cut or blister. Daily foot inspections and foot care – such as always wearing shoes or socks – can help identify the earliest signs of an injury. Circulation problems prevent adequate blood flow to the feet, making any cuts, blisters, or other injuries difficult to heal. This can result in nonhealing wounds that progress from minor to infected to deadly in a short period of time. Without regular foot care, a person with improperly controlled diabetes may face the unpleasant choice of limb amputation to prevent the spread of a life-threatening infection.

When to See a Podiatrist

Most minor foot or ankle problems go away with time, using simple, at-home remedies such as ice, heat, and over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication. However, if you experience any of the following symptoms, you should make an appointment to see the podiatrist at United Medical:

  • Sudden, unexplained pain in the foot or ankle
  • Abnormal lump or bump that hurts
  • A mole that changed in color and/or size
  • Foot discoloration
  • Numbness, burning, or tingling in the feet or legs
  • Pain and swelling of just one foot
  • Open sores that don’t appear to be healing
  • Severe pain that lasts for more than 24 hours

Diagnosis & Treatment

When you visit our podiatrist, you can expect a thorough examination of your foot, as well as a discussion about your medical history, symptoms, and any concerns you may have.

Once the issue is identified and you’ve received a diagnosis, we will provide you with treatment options based on your unique situation. Many treatments can be conducted right here in our office.
